Abstract

Welcome to this second edition of Alignment During Pre-Project Planning: A Key to Project Success. The first edition of this document was developed and written by the Front End Planning Research Team (RT113) and published in 1997. As part of its charter, the Support for Pre-Project Planning Research Team (RT213) decided to review and update all CII pre-project planning documentation including this document. It used materials from the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) Security Study performed by CII in 2003, as well as the collective knowledge of team members. Included in the update are clarification of the methods for using the alignment thermometer, updates to references, references to security and sustainability issues, and minor changes and clarifications throughout. RT213 hopes that these changes improve the usability of the tool.

The 2009 update to version 2.1 provided Word™ and Excel™ versions of the Alignment Thermometer on the compact disc that accompanies this book.
