Larry Green

Larry Green has over 38 years of experience in the chemical and oil and gas industries. Larry has held senior leadership roles in operations and HSE related fields in multiple businesses and at a global corporate level. Larry currently holds the position of the Safety Technical Authority for BP with responsibilities for the work processes, standards and practices that BP employs to effectively manage risks associated with contractor activities. He is a subject matter expert within the safety discipline focused on establishing and implementing contractor safety processes and procedures throughout BP globally. He also is very active externally promoting continuous safety improvement throughout our industry. In addition to leading the Construction Industry Institute Safety Community of Practice, he serves as Vice Chair of the Texas Chemical Council Safety Committee and is involved in several external benchmarking groups. Larry has also lectured at The University of Texas and Arizona State University and has presented at numerous seminars primarily in the subject area of safety. He is a certified safety professional (CSP) and earned degrees in Occupational Safety and Health and Industrial Technology from Lamar University, Beaumont Texas.
 
Larry’s CII resume started in 2009, when he was assigned to be a member of the Safety Community of Practice. Since that time, Larry has participated in many aspects of CII leadership activities aimed at improving overall workplace safety:

  • Research project member RT 301 Using Near Miss Reporting to Enhance Safety Performance (CII Best Practice – Zero Accident Techniques) 2012 - 2014
  • Research project member for RT 321 Using Precursor Analysis to Prevent Low-frequency High-impact Events, Including Fatalities 2014 -2016
  • Current Chair CII Safety Community of Practice team 2012 - present
 
Larry’s leadership of the Safety Community of Practice has helped drive team discussions that ultimately resulted in several research projects that were completed and presented at the CII annual conferences over the years.
 
The Safety Community of Practice has made significant progress towards developing new approaches to improvement of overall safety management systems and has provided numerous educational and tabletop discussions as part of the community of practice framework.
