Abstract
Capital project delivery is greatly affected by the quality of the front end planning effort. This process has become a key focus of many organizations in recent years. CII has developed a risk management tool entitled the Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) that, if employed, can significantly improve the front end planning process. The PDRI is a powerful and easy-to-use tool that offers a method to measure project scope definition for completeness. It identifies and precisely describes each critical element in a scope definition package and allows a project team to quickly predict factors impacting project risk. It is intended to evaluate the completeness of scope definition at any point prior to detailed design and construction. Research conducted by the CII indicates that use of the PDRI can set the stage for:
  • Better cost performance, including more predictable estimates and reduced project cost
  • Reduced project schedules
  • Fewer project changes
  • Better operational performance
  • A reduced chance of project disasters
This four-hour education module provides the venue for teaching the background of the tool, how, when and with whom to employ it, and provides an opportunity to use the tool in hypothetical situations.

Education modules are not available for download from the Internet.

This publication contains IR155-2, PDRI: Project Definition Rating Index – Building Projects, Version 3.2.
