James B. Porter, Jr. Award for Technology Leadership

Each year, CII honors an individual who exhibits the traits and leadership qualities that James B. Porter, Jr. is known for. This award was established in 2007 as a tribute to Jim Porter, who was instrumental in establishing Fiatech and whose vision, leadership, technical acumen, commitment to people, and tireless efforts have advanced the capital projects industry.

Award Selection Criteria

Criteria for the Porter Award include the following: 
  • Significant technology contributions to the construction industry (i.e., through innovation, effective implementation, business impact, and mentorship).
  • Demonstration of the highest degree of personal dedication to the development and advancement of technology within the capital projects industry. (Describe in detail.)
  • A leadership position in the construction industry from which others can be influenced by example, mentorship, or direction.
  • A record of accomplishment that brings distinction to the recipient and the organization with which he or she has been associated.
  • Nominees cannot be active on the CII Executive Committee, or part of the current or past CII staff.

Submit a nomination for this award. The deadline for nominations is April 29.

Zuhair Haddad (2016)

Zuhair Haddad of the Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) is a role model champion for successful new technology implementation. He not only embraces technology, he defines its value so his company implements it and gets value. The additional value to others in the industry is that Zuhair is willing to share that experience (successes and failures). He and his team have been inspirational supporters of the PAT Team Success Enabler Survey work that will allow us to share what we know with everyone in the industry.

J. Peter Blake (2015)

Peter Blake of Hatch has been a highly visible advocate for technology advancement within Hatch and throughout the industry. Beyond the leadership roles Peter provided in Fiatech, he has also been active in promoting technology advancement in many other industry organizations, where he has also been recognized for his leadership. Peter has an ability to focus on the key issues and speak with clarity on the benefits and results to be achieved. He is a visionary leader who sees the big picture on the opportunity technology provides and drives forward the implementation of new technology work practices with a level-headed pragmatic approach defining clear benefits and value.
