Overview

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process focused on the development, use, and transfer of information in a digital model of a building project. Proper implementation improves design quality, planning, construction, operations, asset management, space planning, maintenance scheduling, and the overall performance of a facility or a portfolio of facilities.

Examples of poor implementation have resulted in increased costs for the modeling services, schedule delays due to missing information, and little to no added value.

BIM implementation must be planned, resourced, and integrated into a projects execution plan to successfully achieve the value from the available model information.
