Overview

The business world is interconnected electronically: communication is instantaneous and the need to access vital information is often immediate. To maintain global competitiveness and to benefit from the sweeping changes taking place in the business world, the construction industry must develop a proactive approach to information management developments. Because many aspects of the design and construction process are “information-intensive,” the industry must be able to implement various information management strategies and technologies effectively.

This research topic discusses the opportunity and the methodology to simulate information management changes in the overall work process prior to real world implementation. Utilizing the research recommendations organizations can enhance cycle time (activity and overall), quality, and improved cost performance.

This implementation resource includes:

  • Activity Cost Based-Simulation (ABC-Sim) – A tool to predict the benefits of information management or any other proposed changed to the EPC process quantitatively while identifying impact areas and mitigating risks. The simulation yields output measures for total activity time, total activity cost and total elapsed time. (Please note that this software no longer runs on current platforms.)
