Registering

Do I really need to register?

Definitely. Registering for the CII site enables you to log in and access CII products. Employees of member organizations especially benefit from being logged in, since that gives them access to everything CII has to offer, a significant member discount on every product, and free online access to most products.

If you are not registered and logged in, you cannot purchase or access CII products.

I work for a CII member organization, but I am not a registered user. How do I get a username and password?

Contact your organization’s Online Administrator (OLA) and ask to be signed up. If your organization has not designated an OLA, contact your Board of Advisors representative or alternate. You can also go to the Sign Up page and register yourself, but activation may take longer that way.

I do not work for a CII member organization, but I would like to become a registered user so I can purchase CII products. How do I do this?

Go to the Sign Up page and follow the directions.

How can I tell if I work for a CII member organization?

Consult the member list. If you see your employer, then locate your organization’s Online Administrator and request to be signed up.

How does an organization join CII?

Please visit the Membership page to see membership details and contact information.

I am an academic or student. How should I sign up so I can enjoy the academic/student discount?

To guarantee your discount, register on the Sign Up page but place your orders through CII at (512) 232-3016 or orders@cii.utexas.edu.

Logging in

Help, I can't log in! I've forgotten my username and/or password. Whom can I contact for help?

Have you tried the automatic “Reset Password” option on the Log In page?

For assistance with your account, please call Michael Burns at (512) 232-3018 or e-mail him at mburns@cii.utexas.edu. If he is away from his desk, you also can try the main CII phone number of (512) 232-3000.

Using my account

How can I change my username and password?

First, log in using your current username and password. If you are unable to log in, try using the automatic “Reset Password” option on the Log In page.

Once you are logged in, click on “View Account” to the right of the welcome message at the top of the page. Next click the “Security” button on the gray-blue horizontal bar. The Security page will be enable you to change your username and password.

Who else in my organization is registered at CII?

Once you are logged in, click on “View Account” to the right of the welcome message at the top of the page. Locate the Directory and Roster for your organization in the lefthand navigation area. You can use either resource to see basic information on your colleagues who are registered with CII.

Ordering or downloading products

How do I place an order?

Simply log in, browse the CII Store, add desired products to your Shopping Cart, then proceed to checkout. You can also visit How to Order for other ways to order and details on pricing, shipping, etc. If you are unable to check out or have other questions, please contact CII Publications at orders@cii.utexas.edu or (512) 232-3016 for ordering assistance.

What isn’t my Shopping Cart reflecting my member discount?

Typically, this occurs when items are added to the Shopping Cart before the individual has logged into the website. Once you are logged in, you will need to add the same items to your cart again, then keep the discounted items and remove the non-discounted items.

I am an academic or student. How should I place my order so I can get the academic/student discount?

To enjoy this discount, you should be prepared to provide verification of your educational status at a university. Once your status is verified, you must place your order through CII Publications at orders@cii.utexas.edu or (512) 232-3016.

I am a CII registered user. Can I download PDFs for free?

If you are a registered user who works for a member organization, you can log in and and read any electronic copy online or download it for free. If you are a registered user who works for a non-member organization, you can log in and purchase any electronic copy to download.

I am given the option of downloading a PDF, but when I click the link nothing downloads. Help!

Your browser doesn’t support our download process, but two other download strategies seem to work for everyone. You can probably just right-click the Download link and Save As to your drive/disk. Alternatively, if you can open the PDF onscreen, you can click the disk icon at the upper left-hand corner of the Acrobat window to Save As to disk.

I’m trying to download a PIP Practice, but the website won’t let me.

PIP products are only available for purchase to be mailed directly to you in the hard-copy format.

Errors and other issues

I can’t see a page, but I know it’s there. What is the problem?

Are you logged in? Several areas of the CII website require you to be logged in before you can access them. If you are not registered, then you will need to register before you can log in.

I am experiencing difficulties with Benchmarking. Who can help me?

CII's Search Engine

What kind of information is provided by the CII search?

CII’s search engine provides fast, relevant search results. Logged-in member company users and actively participating academics can search within CII’s publications as well as the CII website itself. Non-members receive search results for the CII website that includes product listings and abstracts, but cannot search within CII’s publications.

The CII search engine is available in two locations with slightly different functionality. The search box at the upper right hand corner of each page provides site-wide search results for all visitors with the addition of publication searches for logged-in members. Another search box, located within the CII Store provides results targeted to publications. Searches by non-members in the CII Store search box will produce product listings and abstracts. Searches in this area by members and selected academics produce product listings, abstracts and publications.

The CII search engine provides both basic and advanced search functionality using the familiar Google search interface.

Visiting CII

I am coming to visit CII. Do you have a map or other information that could help me?

Yes, we have a visitor page where you can download a map that gives directions from the airport to CII and lists hotels near our office. The visitor page also offers you our building safety brochure.
