Abstract

In recognition of the three distinct facets inherent to APC—work environment, project controls, and advanced technologies—RT-402 developed this implementation resource and its three tools: Work Environment Assessment Rating Tool, the Project Controls Readiness Checklist Tool, and the Technology Practices Maturity Rating Tool.

Based on insights from subject matter experts, this Implementation Resource identifies and characterizes the barriers, drivers, and user-related attributes of advanced project controls technologies. These technology factors are analyzed, and their intensity levels are rated. Such technology adoption characterization provides guidance for owner and contractor companies aiming to implement and use these technologies, as well as for the technology service providers that design them.

Additionally, this resource details the state of technology adoption and practice in project controls. It identifies and defines project control functions by project phase and quantifies the prevalent reporting frequency for each function. Although results indicate that the industry still relies heavily on lag reporting, the guidance provided in this resource on technology adoption should be leveraged by industry organizations to advance project controls capabilities, enabling more accurate and timely information on the actual project condition.
