Overview
CII Development Teams are focused, member-driven groups that translate research into practical, actionable tools for the capital projects industry. Previously called Joint Working Groups, these teams were renamed to emphasize their role in driving innovation and developing practical industry solutions, bringing together subject-matter experts from across CII member organizations to address pressing challenges, validate best practices, and accelerate implementation. By combining research insights with real-world experience, Development Teams play a critical role in ensuring that CII resources remain relevant, applicable, and impactful.
Purpose
CII Development Teams are designed to:
- Bridge the gap between research and practice by refining insights and applying findings to real-world project environments
- Develop and enhance implementation tools that support the adoption of CII Best Practices
- Address emerging industry needs through targeted, collaborative efforts
- Increase member value by delivering practical, ready-to-use solutions
Key Functions
Development Teams engage in a variety of high-impact activities, including:
- Translating CII research into implementation guides, tools, and templates
- Updating and enhancing existing Best Practice resources

Team Structure
Each Development Team consists of:
- CII Member Representatives with relevant expertise and field experience who bring practical insights to solution development
- CII Staff Support to guide progress, ensure alignment, and facilitate collaboration
This cross-functional structure ensures that all outputs are both technically sound and operationally feasible.
While participation in a Development Team is limited to CII member representatives, teams are encouraged to actively collaborate with peer organizations and industry experts to broaden perspectives and strengthen outcomes.
