Abstract

The onsite design tool (OSD Tool) is a decision support software tool designed to assist project teams in determining which design activities should be performed on site, by project phase, to achieve improvements in user-selected performance measure(s). This tool is designed on a Microsoft® database platform, but knowledge of database applications is not required. The user interface is simple, using pull down menus. The user can perform four different types of queries and print the output in multiple formats.

Please note that the OSD Tool also has a glossary of terms and a pull down menu for help items that can be accessed from the main menu or “switchboard.” The OSD Tool is extremely easy to use. Should the user require assistance, the help menu contains several different topics. However, the database program was designed so formal training and guidance is not required for use of the tool. The following sections explain in detail the features and uses of the Onsite Design Tool. Chapter 2 provides two case study examples for easy reference.

IR163-2, Onsite Design Tool for Project Planning

This On-site Design Tool (OSD Tool) is a decision support software tool designed to assist project teams in determining which design activities should be performed on site, by project phase, to achieve improvements in user-selected performance measure(s).

Included in the tool are two case study examples to demonstrate how the tool can be applied to determine which design activities should be executed on site to maximize the performance benefit.
