Abstract
Based on the ever-changing global marketplace and the increasing competition for a share of this market, international alliance relationships will increase in numbers and become an important competitive edge in the years to come. Foreign firms will even use these alliance relationships as a “two-way street” and enter the American market with its U.S. alliance participant. When the purpose and philosophy inherent to alliances is studied and properly applied, the participants involved gain a wider range of strategic flexibility than they would have on their own. An alliance is much like a journey, in that it will have a beginning and an end, and will take the participants down paths never travelled before.
