RT-410
Evaluating the Implementation and Value of CII Best Practices
Launched 2023
The Construction Industry Institute (CII) has long been a leader in developing and validating best practices (BPs) to drive capital project success. While CII BPs have demonstrated potential for enhanced project performance, companies require concrete data to quantify these gains and understand their relative standing within the industry. To address this, CII launched RT-410 in August 2023, initiating comprehensive surveys. These surveys are designed to not only assess the impact of implementing CII BPs on project outcomes but also to provide companies with the ability to benchmark their implementation levels against industry peers. By participating, organizations gain valuable insights into the tangible benefits of BPs and identify specific areas for improvement. This data will directly enable companies to leverage targeted CII resources, strategically address knowledge gaps, and ultimately maximize the return on their BP investments.
Note that this is an ongoing RT. To provide a more robust and valuable benchmarking resource, the data collection period has been extended, with results expected in July 2026. This extension allows more organizations, including new CII members, to participate and obtain customized benchmarking reports comparing their Best Practice (BP) implementation to industry peers. If your organization is new to CII, this is a great way to develop a broad overview of the practices CII has to offer.
Objective and Questions
The main objectives of this research are:
- To assess the level of implementation of CII BPs and their impact on project performance.
- To answer specific research questions, including:
- What is the impact of CII BP implementation on key project performance outcomes?
- What is the level of implementation of CII BPs across projects in member organizations?
- What is the extent of CII Tool implementation across projects in member organizations, and what benefits do they get from using the tools?
- Once an organization benchmarks their implementation level, what CII resources can help them to address observed gaps?
Expected Outcomes
Participating organizations will receive customized benchmarking reports that directly compare their Best Practice (BP) implementation levels to their industry peers. These reports will pinpoint specific implementation gaps within their projects and provide targeted recommendations, including links to relevant Construction Industry Institute (CII) resources, to facilitate improvement. This allows companies to:- Gain clear insights into their standing relative to other organizations.
- Understand specific areas needing improvement in their projects.
- Leverage CII resources to create actionable plans for enhancing BP utilization
- Provide concrete evidence to C-suite decision-makers of the benefits of the CII membership
