CII 2025 Q2 Research Updates

July 1, 2025
As we move through the second quarter of 2025, CII continues to advance cutting-edge research that drives meaningful improvements across the capital projects industry. This quarter’s updates highlight four dynamic research teams tackling critical areas such as benchmarking best practices, transforming supplier qualification, enhancing safety communication, and aligning business drivers in front-end planning. From opportunities to contribute data and insights to upcoming events and participation calls, there are multiple ways for CII members and industry professionals to get involved and help shape the future of capital project performance.

RT-410 Evaluating the Implementation and Value of CII Best Practices

bps.png CII’s Research Team 410 is seeking volunteers to provide company and project-level data related to the implementation of CII Best Practices and project outcomes. The goal of this project is to provide resources to allow companies to benchmark their level of implementation of CII BPs among other CII member companies through a customized benchmarking report. The report will visualize your project/organization score in comparison to the dataset collected from all organizations, and will identify improvement opportunities in each Best Practice and provide you with related CII resources. Participants will receive a customized benchmarking report that will be provided to them at the end of the study. Please contact In Bae Chung for additional information.

CII RT-413 research to transform supplier qualification programs

The Construction Industry Institute (CII), in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder, is developing a practical guidebook to share best practices in supplier qualification. Our goal is to improve project performance across the capital projects industry. We invite your organization to contribute valuable insights that will shape this industry-wide resource.

RT-431: Best Practices in Safety Communication and Training

CII is launching a new research project, RT-431: Best Practices in Safety Communication and Training, led by a distinguished Purdue University team with over a decade of industry collaboration and funded research. The team includes Drs. Hasanzadeh, Esmaeili, and Perrault bringing a deep expertise in construction safety, AI-driven solutions, wearable technologies, and strategic health communication.

RT-435: Enhancing Alignment and Communication of Business Drivers in FEP

In addition, CII has initiated another important research effort, RT-435: Enhancing Alignment and Communication of Business Drivers in FEP, focused on improving how business needs are defined, communicated, and integrated into project execution. Led by a team from Arizona State University, including Drs. Parrish, Pooladvand, and Stapp, the project will explore the interface between business objectives, decision-making, and execution to develop best practices at both the communication (personnel) and process levels. The goal is to foster constructive, ongoing dialogue between business and project stakeholders throughout the project life cycle. There is still time to join this initiative, and we are offering a
webinar on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm CT for those interested.
