Keynote Addresses

Billy Beane, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations – Oakland Athletics

beane_s.jpgConsidered one of the most progressive and talented baseball executives in the game today, Billy Beane has molded the Oakland Athletics into one of professional baseball’s most consistent winners. Beane shattered traditional MLB beliefs that big payrolls equated wins by implementing a statistical methodology that led the Oakland A’s, one of the worst teams in baseball with one of the lowest payrolls, to six American League West Division titles. That strategic methodology has come to be known as the Moneyball philosophy, named for the bestselling book and Oscar-nominated film.

Today, Billy Beane’s “Moneyball” philosophy has been adopted by organizations of all sizes, across all industries, as a way to more effectively, efficiently, and profitably manage their assets, talent, and resources. He has helped to shape the way modern businesses view and leverage big data and employ analytics for long-term success. Beane conveys his innovative, winning style of management and leadership, which involves utilizing analytics to identify undervalued assets to create and sustain a competitive advantage.

John O’Leary, President and Chief Executive Officer – Rising Above

oleary_sIn 1987, John O’Leary was a curious nine-year-old boy. Playing with fire and gasoline, John created a massive explosion in his home and was burned on 100% of his body. He was given a one-percent chance to live.

John spent five months in the hospital, underwent dozens of surgeries, lost all of his fingers to amputation, and had to relearn to walk, write, and feed himself. He endured, persevered, and survived – largely because others emerged, served, and inspired. John shares his lessons as a tribute to those who leapt into the flames to save him.

John’s epic story of survival was first showcased in his parents’ book, Overwhelming Odds. Originally printing 200 copies for friends and family, his parents have sold tens of thousands of copies, mostly at John’s speaking events. It was this book that first invited John to embrace his miraculous recovery and share it with the world.
